As
winter approaches the Western slopes of Wyoming's Bighorn mountains,
large numbers of elk and mule deer leave the high country for lower
elevations. Here they find refuge from winter storms and the food
supply is abundant. These large concentrations of game, combined
with the rocky terrain and deep canyons, make this area ideal hunting
ground for the mountain lion.
There
is nothing quite like hearing a pack of hounds strike the track of a
big tom on a frosty Wyoming morning. Now the chase is on and with
the ability of a good bunch of hounds, your experienced outfitter, some
good old fashioned hard work and some luck, you just might have the
trophy of a lifetime.
This
is a 7-day Wyoming mountain lion hunt scheduled between mid-November
and the end of March. Hunting is generally better if new snow
is available and with the hunter on call. Hunts may also be scheduled
for a specific date. This area has a large lion population and
under good hunting conditions success is high. Mountain lion hunts
are conducted by horseback, snow machine or 4x4, depending on the exact
area being hunted and weather conditions.
A big Wyoming
tom will make an excellent addition to your trophy room.
